Pennsylvania Senate Budget Cuts Would Cripple Tourism Industry and Eliminate Local Support

Senate Bill 850 would cut tourism funding by 73% in Pennsylvania.  Proposed cuts would eliminate marketing funding for the Pennsylvania Civil War Trails and other programs.

Civil War history remembered with dedication of trail markers

13 new markers have been added to the North Carolina Civil War Trail.  These markers “include the voices of African Americans in western North Carolina prior to 1865.”  Each marker has a sponsor who provides $200 annually to support the upkeep of the marker and the promotion of the NC Civil War Trail.

University study shows Indiana tourism increase

A Ball State University study, "Cultural Tourism in Indiana: The Impact and Clustering of the Arts and Creative Activities in this Recession," found that tourism is more resistant to decline than other sectors of Indiana’s economy.  Despite increases in ticket sales, the drop in investment values is impacting endowments and potential donors.  The study found that cultural tourism generates nearly $5 billion for Indiana's economy and employs more than 40,000 people.

A survey to document textile heritage and identify potential tourism stops is being completed for a third of the counties in North Carolina.  The Textile Heritage Center in Cooleemee, North Carolina hopes to use this information to establish a textile heritage corridor from Richmond, Virginia to Montgomery, Alabama.
